Harun Momanyi, an acclaimed Kenyan journalist and Founder of Tranquil Media Group (TMG), has been appointed to the International News Media Association’s (INMA) Young Professionals Committee (YPC). This prestigious committee is composed of highly skilled and diverse professionals selected from across the global media industry, tasked with shaping the future of the news media sector by engaging its rising stars.

YPC oversees the association’s Young Professionals Initiative, which empowers under-30 professionals in the news media industry. Through mentorship, recognition, and career-enhancing resources, the initiative fosters leadership and innovation among young talent while addressing the challenges of a rapidly transforming industry.

Momanyi’s appointment is a testament to his remarkable career in the global digital media space, spanning over a decade. He has contributed to renowned platforms such as GRAMMY.com, OkayAfrica, Business Insider Africa, and Kenya Airways’ inflight magazine Msafiri. Beyond journalism, he has spent the last four years building TMG, a company that focuses on creating solutions for professionals navigating the complexities of the modern workplace. Notably, TMG launched Career Fodder, an online platform that prepares professionals for the future of work by addressing industry disruptions like AI.

Under his leadership, TMG has achieved significant milestones, including becoming the first Kenyan startup to join the Jamlab Accelerator for media startups in Sub-Saharan Africa (2021/22) and participating in the Google News Initiative Prelaunch Lab for Kenyan media entrepreneurs (2024).

Momanyi’s accolades include being named among the 100 Most Influential Young Kenyans by Avance Media (2019) and receiving a nomination for the BBC Komla Dumor Award (2018). He has also represented Kenya at the P4G Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a Next Generation Young Influencer.

Speaking on his appointment, Momanyi said:

I strongly believe that I am up to the task, and with my wealth of experience and practical knowledge gained over the past 10 years, I will deliver immense value to the initiative’s efforts.”

Momanyi’s commitment to servant leadership is further reflected in his academic and professional development. He is an alumnus of the PGCert Journalism Innovation and Leadership Program at the University of Central Lancashire, UK, and the RARE with Google Leadership Academy. He also holds a certificate in Power and Influence for Positive Impact from Harvard Business School Online and was a Fellow in the Young & Emerging Leaders Program at the LéO Africa Institute. He was also a program participant in the 2023 ICFJ News Corp Media Fellowship.

With his wealth of experience and innovative vision, Momanyi is poised to make a lasting impact on the INMA Young Professionals Initiative. His leadership and dedication promise to inspire a new generation of media professionals.
